Human Services Agencies

The state Human Services Agency in each state is set up to assist citizens with getting the help they need. The focus is on the needs of the family, including family caregivers.

Human Services Divisions might include:

  • Children and Family
  • Disability Services
  • Elder Services
  • Emergency Services
  • Financial Assistance
  • Food and Nutrition Assistance
  • Housing Assistance
  • Medicaid
  • Mental Health Resources
  • Public Health
  • Safety
  • Substance Abuse

Types of assistance might be Food Stamps, helping pay heating and cooling bills, assistance with paying for the health care needs of children, emergency financial aid during times of crisis, and mental health counseling.

Each state may be structured differently depending on the needs of the citizens of that state. Any of the various Human Services Agency Divisions or Departments would be able to let you know what is available in your state.

Your official state website will have a list of divisions under your state Human Services Agency. Or, you could contact your State Aging Agency or Area Agency on Aging.
