North Carolina Homestead Exemption
The North Carolina Homestead Exemption exempts qualified homeowners from
paying property taxes on either the first thirty five
thousand dollars ($35,000) in appraised value of their permanent residence or 50%
of the property value, whichever is greater.

You must be at least sixty-five years of age or totally and permanently disabled. You must also have an income for the preceding calendar year of not more than $26,500 (*this amount changes each year), and finally, you must be a North Carolina resident.
