Developmental
Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services
This government Division works to provide citizens of North Carolina who have, or are at risk of, mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance abuse problems the necessary prevention, intervention, treatment, services and supports they need to live successfully in communities of their choice.
The Division's state facilities consist of four regional psychiatric hospitals, four developmental disabilities centers, three substance abuse treatment centers, a specialty nursing facility for consumers with mental illness, a specialty nursing facility for consumers with developmental disabilities, and two residential facilities for children with emotional disturbances.
